Haunting in Venice

Kenneth Branagh breathes an air of the spectral into Agatha Christie’s narrative in his latest project, “A Haunting in Venice.” The film takes a classic murder mystery and infuses it with elements of the supernatural and the uncanny, making its upcoming streaming release on Hulu incredibly fitting. This intriguing adaptation won’t just be haunting Hulu; it’s set to materialize in Digital HD format simultaneously, presenting viewers with diverse avenues to dive deep into this thrilling saga. Mark your calendars: “A Haunting in Venice” materializes on both platforms this October 31st, although plans for a physical home video release remain under wraps.

A Haunting in Venice was set against the backdrop of post-World War II

Set against the ghostly backdrop of post-WWII Venice during the ominous All Hallows’ Eve, this spine-chilling mystery marks the comeback of the renowned detective, Hercule Poirot. Despite having retreated into a self-chosen exile in the midst of Venice’s enigmatic allure, a reluctant Poirot finds himself drawn to a séance within a crumbling, ghost-infested palazzo. A sudden murder catapults him into a murky realm of enigmas and clandestine machinations.

“A Haunting in Venice” signifies a reunion for the creative minds behind 2017’s “Murder on the Orient Express” and 2022’s “Death on the Nile.” Kenneth Branagh not only directs but also co-produces, with the script penned by the Oscar-nominated Michael Green, known for “Logan.” The storyline is a creative reimagining of Agatha Christie’s “Hallowe’en Party.” Alongside Branagh, the production team includes Judy Hofflund, Ridley Scott, and Simon Kinberg, supported by executive producers Louise Killin, James Prichard, and Mark Gordon. The film boasts a constellation of acting talent portraying a roster of compelling characters, featuring names like Kenneth Branagh, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio, and the esteemed Oscar recipient, Michelle Yeoh.

Future of the franchise is unclear

While “Death on the Nile” debuted just a year prior, its initial release was deferred due to the COVID-19 crisis. Although there might not be immediate plans for another Agatha Christie spectacle in the coming year, the notion of Poirot returning to the big screen isn’t off the table.

James Prichard, executive producer and the helm at Agatha Christie LTD, conveyed a cautious optimism about what’s next for the series in a chat with ComicBook.com, “I prefer taking it one step at a time, as planning too far into the future often jinxes those plans. We’re hopeful that this film resonates with audiences and achieves great success, paving the way for more discussions about what’s on the horizon.”

“A Haunting in Venice” will cast its eerie spell on Hulu and Digital HD this October 31st. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on what the future holds for this thrilling series.
