For the first time since losing the now-retired Divas Championship to Nikki Bella at WWE Survivor Series 2014, AJ Lee once again holds a singles title in WWE.
AJ Lee Puts an End to Becky Lynch’s Title Run
Lee defeated Becky Lynch at WWE Elimination Chamber 2026 to win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship, bringing Lynch’s second reign to an end after 54 days.
Lynch entered the match facing more than just her opponent. The crowd turned against her early, chanting “Becky sucks,” “you can’t wrestle,” and “overrated” throughout the opening moments. She also had to deal with referee Jessika Carr, who officiated the previous match where Lynch lost a title to Maxxine Dupri.
Carr again played a role in the outcome. Lynch attempted to drive Lee into an exposed turnbuckle, but Carr intervened and stopped the attack. The interruption created an opening that Lee quickly seized. When Lynch went for a dive, Lee stepped aside, sending “The Man” crashing face-first into the steel turnbuckle. Lee immediately locked in the Black Widow submission, forcing Lynch to tap out.
Saturday night marked Lee’s first singles match since March 16, 2015—another bout against Nikki Bella that ended in defeat. Any concerns about ring rust disappeared quickly, as Lee continued her momentum against Lynch, extending her winning streak against her rival to three matches.
Lee and Lynch Could Potentially Face off at WrestleMania Las Vegas
Their recent rivalry includes a mixed tag match at WWE Wrestlepalooza, where Lee and her husband CM Punk defeated Lynch and Seth Rollins. Then, at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, Lee secured the win for her team by forcing Lynch to tap out to the Black Widow.
Attention now turns toward WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas this April. For months, rumors have circulated that Lee and Lynch could meet again on WWE’s biggest stage, and now that Lee holds the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, a rematch between the two inside Allegiant Stadium seems increasingly likely.
Lee has not competed at WrestleMania since WrestleMania 31, where she teamed with Paige to defeat The Bella Twins in a tag match. Despite her long career, Lee has only appeared at WrestleMania twice and has never wrestled in a singles match at the event.
One major WrestleMania bout was confirmed earlier in the evening. Rhea Ripley survived five other competitors inside the Elimination Chamber to earn the first Chamber victory of her career. She will now challenge Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 42.
