John Cena didn’t step into the ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City this weekend, but that didn’t stop him from dropping some major news. Appearing in a pre-recorded video message, Cena revealed a huge twist regarding his long-awaited farewell match. Fans have been buzzing for weeks about who would be chosen as his final opponent for the December Peacock special — but as it turns out, Cena won’t be making that choice himself.
16-Man Tournament will Determine John Cena Final Opponent
Instead, he announced the launch of “The Last Time is Now” Tournament, a 16-man competition where the winner earns the honor of facing Cena in his last match.
While Cena didn’t name any participants, he teased that competitors would come from across Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and even possibly outside WWE. He hinted that a few surprise entrants might not even be under WWE contract — a strong nod toward the company’s ongoing collaboration with TNA. Cena also mentioned that some of the entrants will be people he’s shared the ring with before, while others will be fresh matchups entirely. During the video, the screen flashed images of Penta, Carmelo Hayes, GUNTHER, Dominik Mysterio, and Bronson Reed, giving fans plenty to speculate about.
Grand Finale set for Saturday Night Main Event
The tournament officially kicks off November 10 on Monday Night Raw in Cena’s hometown of Boston, Massachusetts — a show already being billed as his final appearance in Boston. The grand finale will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., where Cena will wrestle for the very last time.
