Sami Zayn was close to ending Roman Reigns historic run
Zayn came close to ending Reigns’ dominant run, but it wasn’t enough to clinch the victory. Reigns emerged as the winner, which now sets him up to advance to WrestleMania in April to take on Cody Rhodes, the winner of the 2023 Royal Rumble.
The match was full of dramatic moments, with the crowd on the edge of their seats as they witnessed Zayn and Reigns giving it their all. Zayn almost had the win secured, but things took a dramatic turn when Reigns accidentally backed into Zayn, squashing the referee in the corner. This gave Jimmy Uso the opportunity to interfere, attacking Zayn, which would have secured Reigns’ victory had an official been present. Despite the interference, Zayn managed to kick out, much to the delight of his hometown crowd.
As the match progressed, a second referee was knocked out, and Jey Uso appeared in the ring. Reigns handed him a steel chair to test his loyalty, but when Jey hesitated, Reigns mushed him in the face in disgust. This moment created an opening for Zayn to recover enough to try a spear on Reigns, but the champion swiftly moved out of the way, and the move dropped Jey instead. Reigns then punished Zayn with several chair shots before finishing him off with a spear, retaining his crown.
Kevin Owens returned to help Sami
After the match, Kevin Owens came to Zayn’s aid, attacking Reigns and Jimmy Uso. He delivered a Stunner to Reigns and Jimmy Uso and put Uso through a table with a popup powerbomb before leaving Reigns for Zayn to finish off with a Helluva Kick.
The event left fans eagerly anticipating what’s next in the wrestling world, with Reigns set to take on Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania in April. The match was a testament to the skills and determination of both wrestlers, with Zayn coming within a fraction of a second of ending Reigns’ run, but ultimately, Reigns emerged victorious.
