The revival of classic TV shows has become a popular trend in recent times. In 2023, the spinoff “That ’90s Show” and the revival of the classic comedy series “Night Court” both made their debut. Although the fate of “That ’90s Show” on Netflix is yet to be announced, NBC has already confirmed that “Night Court” will return for a second season. This is due to the positive response and enthusiasm from audiences, who have a strong connection to the original series.
Night Court renewed after receiving positive response from audiences
Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBC Universal Television and Streaming, says the renewal of the show is a testament to the continued significance of traditional broadcast television as a platform for communal viewing. She thanks the cast, writers, producers, and crew for their hard work in bringing the show back to life.
The Night Court revival stars Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone, who takes on the role of the daughter of the late Judge Harold “Harry” T. Stone, played by Harry Anderson in the original series. John Larroquette reprises his role as the eccentric lawyer Dan Fielding, who was a fan-favorite in the original show. The pilot episode was directed and executive produced by Pamela Fryman, and Dan Rubin, Melissa Rauch, and Winston Rauch also serve as executive producers.
In the revival, Judge Abby Stone is tasked with trying to bring order to the night shift of a Manhattan court, where she must manage a diverse group of oddball employees, including the wisecracking Dan Fielding. Melissa Rauch originally intended to only work behind the camera on the project, but her plans changed after she read the script and fell in love with the project. She is excited to be a part of the revival and to bring “Night Court” back to television with the help of a talented cast, crew, and the support of NBC and Warner Bros.
