Several wrestling promotions are set to deliver a one-of-a-kind event this January. This includes AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling. The event is called Wrestle Dynasty. This highly anticipated pay-per-view will take place the day after NJPW’s legendary Wrestle Kingdom event at the Tokyo Dome. Current AEW Tag Team Champions, the Young Bucks, have confirmed their attendance, marking their return to the Dome since 2019.
Young Bucks Kenny Omega hinted at possible involvement
In a recent interview, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega spoke with ACE and NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi. He hinted at his possible involvement in the event. Omega mentioned that he is eager to face off against the Young Bucks. He will do this alongside his former rival, Tanahashi, if he is medically cleared.
“Making my return is my top priority,” Omega told NJPW. “If I can be there, I definitely want to face the Bucks. I’m looking for revenge, but I also want to do things right this time. My first match with Tanahashi was a title fight, and in 2019, we both had so much at stake. Now, with us possibly on the same side, I’d want our next encounter to be as partners. I’ve played the villain for much of my career, especially in AEW, where I even cheated to win the title. I don’t want young fans to remember me that way. If Tanahashi and I reunite, I’d want to stand beside him as an ally.”
Wrestle Kingdom would feature Tanahashi’s Final Match
The Young Bucks betrayed Omega, their former Elite stablemate, while he was recovering from diverticulitis. Omega appeared on TV to update fans on his condition. The Bucks attacked him, and he hasn’t been seen since. There’s no confirmed date for “The Best Bout Machine’s” return to AEW television. However, recent training sightings suggest it could be soon.
The Young Bucks, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, recently defended their Tag Team Championships. They faced the AEW homegrown team, Private Party, at AEW WrestleDream. If the Bucks hold onto the titles until January, they might face a challenge from Omega and Tanahashi. This could be an unexpected challenge for them. Notably, Tanahashi announced that he intends for his final match to take place on January 4th at Wrestle Kingdom.
