In the final trailer for the DCEU film, The Flash, a familiar face from Zack Snyder’s DC universe emerges. This is an essential movie within the reshaped DC Universe being fashioned by James Gunn and Peter Safran, with The Flash serving as a cornerstone in this new edition of the interconnected live-action series. Inspired loosely by Flashpoint, the film will feature Barry Allen as he explores the multiverse, potentially resetting the DC Universe and its characters.
The final trailer revealed a returning character
A fresh trailer for The Flash released by DC, now that tickets are available, brings back a classic Snyder character in the film. It reveals the reappearance of Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth.
Irons’ last portrayal of Alfred was in the 2021 Snyder Cut of Justice League on Max (formerly HBO Max), which isn’t part of the DCEU canon. His latest DCEU appearance was in the theatrical cut of Justice League, which adds intrigue to his return.
The Flash movie is set to introduce a new era for the DC Universe, while also incorporating characters from Snyder’s previous films. Notably, it includes Ben Affleck returning as Batman, possibly for the last time, which makes Irons’ return as Alfred all the more fitting as this might be Affleck’s Batman swan song.
The Flash introduces a new era for the DC Universe
Also, Snyder’s DC villains are set to appear in The Flash, with Michael Shannon and Antje Traue reprising their roles as General Zod and Faora respectively. Considering Superman eliminated Zod in Man Of Steel, these characters are presumably alternate versions of Faora and General Zod, bearing similar appearances to their original incarnations. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is also anticipated to have a minor role in The Flash, likely marking her final performance as the celebrated DC character.
As we potentially bid farewell to many actors in their iconic roles, there’s much anticipation for what Gunn and Safran have in store for the DC Universe post The Flash. It remains unclear whether other characters from Snyder’s films will be included, as not all cameo appearances or returnees will likely be disclosed before the release of The Flash. Nonetheless, fans are hopeful that The Flash will provide a gratifying resolution to these characters’ story arcs.
