The famed WWE Superstar, Seth Rollins, was unexpectedly sighted on the set of the upcoming Marvel film, Captain America: New World Order, this past Monday. This surprising event was revealed to the public through a series of leaked photos and videos that rapidly found their way onto various online platforms. It’s a notable occasion, as while the former WWE Champion Dave Bautista has been a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), representing the character Drax The Destroyer since the release of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Rollins might be set to become the very first active WWE star to make an appearance in an MCU production.
Female wrestler Becky Lynch MCU moment cut from Eternals film
Becky Lynch, another WWE star, was previously chosen for a role in The Eternals and was scheduled to make an appearance in the post-credit scene of the film. However, unfortunately for Lynch, this scene was eventually cut from the final version of the movie.
At this point, the specifics of Rollins’ role in Captain America: New World Order remain shrouded in mystery. However, based on the leaked on-set images, it seems he might be costumed as a member of the Serpent Society. Moreover, this is intriguing as there have been previous rumors suggesting that this group would be featured in the movie. New World Order marks the first film in the Captain America series where Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, assumes the main role.
Moreover, the storyline follows the events depicted in Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, chooses to journey into a different timeline to spend the remainder of his life with his beloved Peggy Carter. After living out his days, Rogers returns to the Avengers as an elderly man, passing on his shield and the title of Captain America to Wilson. Moreover, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a Disney+ series, however, reveals Wilson’s initial reluctance to adopt this mantle, resulting in him handing Cap’s shield over to the government. After their unsuccessful attempt to appoint their own Captain America, Wilson ultimately embraces his new role by the end of the series.
Seth Rollins joins a cast that includes Harrison Ford
The rest of the cast for New World Order includes notable stars such as Danny Ramirez, who will be playing Joaquin Torres (also known as the second Falcon from the aforementioned series), Tim Blake Nelson reprising his role as The Leader which he first performed in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, Shira Haas as Sabra, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Hollywood legend Harrison Ford taking over William Hurt’s role as Thunderbolt Ross.
Regarding Rollins’ wrestling career, the four-time former world champion is presently considered the leading contender for WWE’s newly introduced World Heavyweight Championship. He is set to compete against AJ Styles in the tournament finals to determine the inaugural champion at the Night of Champions pay-per-view event taking place on May 27th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. However, @WRKDWrestling, a respected wrestling insider, recently reported in the wake of the leaked photos that “While many backstage are very happy for him, there is hesitancy when it comes to putting the new title on him should these roles continue.”
