Rhea Ripley has achieved remarkable success in her seven-year tenure with WWE, drawing frequent comparisons to WWE legend Chyna due to her imposing presence and storylines that often echo those of the “Ninth Wonder of the World.” At the WWE SummerSlam media event, Ripley shared her thoughts on potentially pursuing the Intercontinental Championship in the future, a feat that would make her only the second woman to do so. During the 1990s, Chyna shattered barriers by becoming the first (and so far only) female Intercontinental Champion, ending her storied career as a three-time titleholder.
WWE continues to revolutionize women’s wrestling by introducing more titles, developing intricate storylines, and featuring women in Premium Live Event main events. Ripley is at the forefront of this movement, earning admiration both inside and outside the ring.
The former Women’s World Champion recently returned from injury to challenge her long-time rival, Liv Morgan, for the title. She believed she had the support of her Judgment Day partner, Dominik Mysterio, only to be blindsided when he aligned with Morgan, costing Ripley not just the championship but much more. Later that evening, Judgment Day faced internal turmoil as Damian Priest also experienced betrayal from his trusted ally within the faction.
Does Rhea Ripley Aspire to Hold the Intercontinental Championship in WWE?
“Yeah. I’d be foolish to say no. I haven’t seen much of that lately. I saw it maybe a few months back when I was beating up all the guys,” Ripley shared with Foundation Radio. “I would absolutely love that. It would be a historic moment. I get to follow in the incredible footsteps of someone like Chyna. It’d be a significant step for the women’s evolution, where we’re encroaching into the men’s division and showcasing what women can do” (h/t: Fightful).
A new Intercontinental Champion was crowned last weekend after Sami Zayn’s defeat, marking a new era led by Bron Breakker. However, Ripley’s title ambitions will have to wait, as her focus remains on Morgan and Mysterio for the time being. In fact, Ripley expressed to ComicBook at the SummerSlam media event that she “would love” to face Morgan in a Hell in a Cell match, a challenge she hasn’t yet had the opportunity to undertake.
