Jordan Peele’s latest directorial outing, Nope, is full of mystery, symbolism, and a fair share of terror. Following the film’s release in July, fans immediately wanted more from the movie and perhaps a further explanation of what was happening in the lonely California gulch. Moreover, Peele always leaves certain aspects to interpretation, as we’ve seen with Get Out and Us, and he does the same with Nope.
Rumors circulated regarding an extended cut of Nope
Rumors began to circulate regarding an extended cut after fans noticed certain scenes from the trailers absent in the movie, resulting in speculation of a sequel or another project in the Nope universe. However, Peele has mentioned the idea of continuing with the characters from the film, and now the director isn’t saying nope to the possibility of an extended cut.
During an interview with Collider following a special screening of Nope at the Toronto International Film Festival, Peele suggested there’s plenty more that could be shown from his latest film. The filmmaker said, “I can neither confirm nor deny anything of the sort.” He continues, “It’s like, ‘Oh s**t.’ There’s been a lot of response to people sort of finding things in the trailer that aren’t in the actual movie. I can say, I do think people will see more in the future. That’s kind of all I really can say. I’m hopeful.” Whether we ever see an extended cut of Nope is still unknown; however, you can count on Jordan Peele to bring us back into that universe sooner rather than later.
Jordan Peele’s projects have been well received
Jordan Peele’s projects have all generally been well received since he began directing feature films with Get Out in 2017. The director says he’s “energetic” with the response to Nope, which pushes him toward releasing more details and projects surrounding the film. During his Collider interview, Peele says, “There’s a lot of enthusiasm clearly to sort of dig into the layers of this film.”
Peele always leaves plenty of little details throughout his filmography, hinting toward the themes and mysteries surrounding his movies. Moreover, Nope is no different, with repeat viewings almost required to understand the film entirely.
