James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new Co-CEOs of DC Studios, have unveiled their plans for the future of the franchise, with Superman at the forefront. The filmmakers’ slate of upcoming projects will feature movies such as “Superman: Legacy,” which will be heavily influenced by the classic storyline of “All-Star Superman,” and will be written by Gunn himself, with the possibility of him directing it. “The Brave and the Bold” will be a new take on Batman and will feature the entire Bat-Family, with Bruce Wayne teaming up with his biological son Damien Wayne. “Swamp Thing” will be a reboot separate from the previous series, and “The Authority” will introduce a new super team to the franchise.
James Gunn has a series of TV shows set for HBO Max
The TV series slate for HBO Max includes “Lanterns,” a reimagined version of the Green Lantern Corps, “Creature Commandos,” an animated series with seven episodes written by Gunn himself, and “Booster Gold,” which will focus on the time-traveling character. “Waller” will be the follow-up to Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” and will feature Amanda Waller, and “Paradise Lost” will explore Wonder Woman’s homeland of Themyscira.
Warner Bros. Discovery has recently undergone changes, including the appointment of new CEO David Zaslav and the cancellation of several projects to secure tax write-offs. Zaslav was on the lookout for a Kevin Feige-type executive to lead the DC Studios arm and hired James Gunn and Peter Safran for the position. The duo has been working on a ten-year movie slate, with the first projects to be released in the coming months.

Gunn and Safran expressed their excitement for the job and their commitment to the DC characters in a joint statement, saying they are honored to be the stewards of these characters they’ve loved since childhood and are excited to bring the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories to life. The next movie to hit theaters will be “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” on March 17th.
