Drew McIntyre Beats CM Punk at SummerSlam

by Larry Lease

The most intense rivalry in WWE heading into tonight’s SummerSlam event on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, was between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. After months of anticipation, Punk was finally cleared to compete, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown.

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre Rivalry Continues

Adding to the drama, Seth Rollins served as the special guest referee, ensuring plenty of controversial moments throughout the match. Rollins inserted himself into the action several times, from allowing some leniency in the rules to nearly hitting McIntyre with a chair, only to almost strike Punk instead. He held back at the last moment, leading to a missed roll-up pin, leaving both competitors and fans frustrated, as was expected.

During the match, Punk managed to execute a submission hold that allowed him to retrieve his bracelet from McIntyre, tearing it off his wrist. However, in the ensuing chaos, the bracelet was lost again. Seizing the opportunity, Rollins picked it up and placed it on his own wrist, ostensibly to keep it out of harm’s way.

Punk noticed the bracelet on Rollins’ wrist just as he was lifting McIntyre for the GTS (Go to Sleep). Rollins tried to explain that he only picked it up to move it aside, but Punk appeared unconvinced. This distraction allowed McIntyre to attack from behind, knocking both Punk and Rollins down, with Rollins falling out of the ring entirely. As a result, he missed a pinfall attempt by Punk that the audience counted up to six, resulting in a “visual pin.”

Frustrated, Punk confronted Rollins in the ring, leading to a heated argument. The confrontation culminated in Punk hitting Rollins with a GTS and reclaiming his bracelet. However, McIntyre took advantage of the situation, delivering a low blow to Punk followed by a Claymore kick.

McIntyre then demanded that Rollins get back into the ring to make the count. Begrudgingly, Rollins did, granting McIntyre the victory. McIntyre took the bracelet once more, indicating that this rivalry is far from over.
