The entertainment industry continues to change as a result of the continued George Floyd protests. The Academy Awards recently announced that they would be adding diversity rules to the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has come under fire in recent years for a major lack of diversity. The Academy Awards have been accused of racism more than once by directors like Spike Lee and others, which has led to this slow change. The Academy Awards also announced that Oscars 2021 will be delayed by two months, meaning the award show will happen in April.
Cinema Gold also had their second exclusive interview. This past week we interviewed Movie Trivia Schmoedown competitor Laura Kelly. Laura Kelly is part of the Korruption Faction. She is currently competing in the Star Wars tournament. It appears very likely she becomes the tournament winner.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the country, businesses continue to open. One such industry is the movie theater business. Several chains including Regal, AMC, Alamo have all announced they will be opening in July. They also announced that all employees and moviegoers must wear masks. Also along the discussion of movie theaters, business insiders expect theaters will lose $30 Billion this year.
During this week it was announced that DC’s upcoming FanDome Virtual Event will include a panel with the new Sucide Squad Cast. DC also celebrated the 15th Anniversary of Batman Begins this week.
Several major studios have begun getting back to filming their projects. Universal’s Jurassic World has put in place several safety rules, going above and beyond when it comes to safety.
Probably one of the biggest stories of the week came from Disney and Lucasfilm and it was the surprise trailer for the upcoming video game Star Wars: Squadrons. The trailer includes X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter combat.
